Symposium Mammographicum is a registered charity founded in 1979. Its principal aims are 'to stimulate and support research and disseminate knowledge about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of breast disease'.

Physicists, oncologists, radiographer assistants/technicians, breast care nurses and other health care professionals who are actively involved in breast care are also targeted.
The usual attendance is between 700 & 800 delegates (including speakers but excluding exhibitors who number 100 approx) with the majority attending from the UK.
