The European Centre for Connected Health (ECCH), based in Northern Ireland, is hosting the ‘European Connected Health Expo Day’ on 7th May 2008, at the Ramada Hotel, Belfast.
Opening Times are 10am — 4.30pm.
The purpose of the event is to allow companies involved in the development of health care technology to show case examples of their work to representatives from health and social care economies in Northern Ireland and from other parts of Europe.
Delegates attending the event will include clinicians, and senior managers involved in the design, procurement, performance management and delivery of healthcare services.
In January, the Minister for Health in Northern Ireland announced, at the Connected Health Conference in Belfast, his intention to invest £46million in chronic disease management with a commitment to have 5000 patients on telemonitoring over the next 3 years.
Northern Ireland has a relatively simple administrative system for financing health and social care with a single, state payer and 5 integrated health and social care provider Trusts. It also has province –wide broad-band coverage.
The recently established ECCH, working closely with clinicians and technical advisers, is currently designing patient pathways to effectively introduce telemonitoring systems for conditions such as diabetes, heart failure and COPD with a view to having the first 500 patients on the programme by the end of this year
Like many other health economies, to date the use of technology in relation to chronic disease management in NI has been limited therefore this announcement offers a significant opportunity to introduce a population-wide scale application. This event is therefore very timely for those interested in providing these services.
The date of the event has been chosen to immediately precede the US NI Investment Conference on 8th and 9th May, in Belfast with the expectation that many companies will find it convenient to travel to NI to attend both events.
This is the first major e-health event in NI since the Health Minister Michael McGimpsey announced on 22nd January the major investment in connected health services and plans to establish the European Centre for Connected Health. This announcement has stimulated considerable interest among those working in Health Boards, Trusts and primary health care. In addition it has also aroused interest from the healthcare technology industry across the world.
