Background to the Conference

Liverpool will host the first International Lung Cancer conference with the theme “Translating basic science into clinical practice”.

Ariel view of arenaWe are delighted to announce that the conference will be held in the new Liverpool Arena and Convention Centre based at Kings Dock, Liverpool from 9-12 July 2008 – the year that Liverpool celebrates the European City of Culture.

The Roy Castle Foundation and the University of Liverpool have organised International Lung Cancer Workshops in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005. Professor John Field, Director of research at Roy Castle Lung Cancer Research Programme has been the driving force behind these previous workshops and seeks to use the Liverpool conference in 2008 to publicise Liverpool’s expertise in the area of lung cancer research and to develop international clinical and scientific partnerships and to expand the broader objectives of cancer research.

The International Lung Cancer conference will bring together experts and participants from worldwide and serves as an opportunity to build on past accomplishments and develop future strategies for lung cancer diagnostics and therapeutics.
